<To the thread> Future USC rules: What's educational??
Sowbug, Daniel and all: I agree with there being some merit to Daniel's comment [and respect it in light of your SNLMF pick :-) ]; however, before we change to a <bright-line rule, like $5 or greater>, let's examine a few of the over $5 stocks in the contest: SEEK and several others were @ 5 or lower less than a year ago:
SEEK [05/97}. PSIX [12/97] MCOM [08/97]; and,
perhaps the most interesting to me is a stock I barely heard of pre-contest:
DGIV -------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- 09/26/97 25,000 2 1/2 1 3/4 2 10/03/97 23,100 2 1/4 1 2 .........> ............> 03/13/98 2,893,300 0.54 0.30 0.46 03/20/98 8,639,300 1 1/2 0.48 1 1/4 03/27/98 3,230,500 1 9/16 1 1/16 1 9/16 04/03/98 6,732,000 5 5/16 1 9/16 3 7/8 04/09/98 1,825,000 4 3/16 3 7/16 3 9/16 04/17/98 4,260,900 6 1/2 3 5/8 6 1/8
{apology in advance for the busy/lazy Saturday syndrome, evidenced by not converting fractions to decimals, and any "misalignments"}
In the past, w/rare exceptions in my little "gambler acct.," presumeably similar to most of us, I have established positions exclusively in institutional-level issues. From an educational perspective, the contest has caused me to reassess the wisdom of that exclusivity.
I don't know the defining levels of <or bigger than micro-cap or nano-cap>; however, I would support some minimum level, perhaps qualified by "ever" or "within the preceding 52 wks." [even if it would disqualify my beloved LKON :-) ].
Just some feedback. Will gladly defer to the majority. |
