TChai:

I've been away for awhile - enjoying the weather out here. Came across this recently - check it out, especially the last sentence:

smartmoney.com

With part of the proceeds from that sale, I'm buying 300
shares of Borland (BORL) at 10. I feel that this maker of
software for database and application management is poised
for a turnaround. Borland is going to restructure and refocus
its business. I don't have any specifics on it at this point, but
management is planning a meeting with analysts on April 29.
We should find out the details then. In terms of earnings,
Borland lost 94 cents a share last year, but the Street is
expecting a gain of 25 cents this year.

This is definitely a speculative play. But I feel that if I don't
get in now, the stock could jump before I establish a
position.

The naysayers keep saying bad things don't they? I'm more amused than anything else. I've bought this as a turnaround play and such stocks take time to really get going. Overall I am quite happy with my returns thus far. Since I consider business to be improving at BORL I expect the stock price to go higher. I was quite surprised by how well the stock price held up pre-earnings. We still have a few more days, but we have not had the 25+% decreases pre-earnings that we have got accustomed to! The pre-earnings lows have got progressively higher. The street is gradually "learning" to not expect bad things aren't they!

(Of course the market tanking will be a minor temporary problem!)

Shane.
