"... P.S. The Summit Apex is regarded by many as being superior
for LASIK, and they still have largest installed base. "

The Visx Star is regarded by most as being superior. And Visx is estimated to do 73% of the current procedures. And Visx has around 50 Summit lasers stored in a warehouse. I assume you do consider these installed? We know this quarter Visx placed 24 lasers -- 16 in the U.S. with 9 being Summit tradeins.

Visx is within days of submitting their U.S. Hyperobia PMA and approval is expected by the end of the year. The Visx Star S2 add-on is required for hyperobia, so it is expected that all of the installed Visx lasers will upgrade to the S2 over the next year.

There is also a hearing later this month concerning Visx's application for the dissolution of PPP (they filed in February). It is possible that a judge will order it dissolved at that time, but more likely it will be referred to trial.

Visx also is expected approval for PTK in Japan this year and PRK soon after. The Japanese market will work similarly to the U.S. with a fee per procedure business model.
