<< I assumed that when you wondered if NY qualified you meant NYC hence " a small island..">>

Ahhh yess. Its the "out in the Atlantic a bit" or some such that threw me. Visions of Nantucket certainly crowed out Manhattan's canyons, which seem quite land bound.

Re: the Q, we share many of the same concerns. As a result, in truth I have traded the stock, quite successfully, although generally not with that intention going in.

The conf. call before last I found quite encouraging. Since what I was really looking for was evidence of handset margin improvements, as well as increased infrastructure build outs and hence some profits.

The Korean problems really are a bump in the road. Which I traded out of. But aren't a longer term concern for me.

But I agree with you: the fact that Q has been brilliant in developing, and then proselytizing the virtues of CDMA does not guarantee that it will be successful as a long term telcoms equipment provider. And many of the contributors to this thread tend to think from more of an engineering, rather than a financial or management, point of view.

Still, all in all I think Q is a pretty good long term bet. Which for the first time in a long time (perhaps ever) is trading at a fairly reasonable multiple of historical and near term forward earnings.

So I got back in. But what do I really know. In the end it's a semi-educated crap shoot, isn't it?

(And I'm avoiding getting to a stack of bills and other paperwork put off while doing taxes, myself.<g>)
