EMAIL FROM THE MIGHTY CHICKEN!
Here is the email:
Thanks to all of you lurkers (I'll keep the secret) who sent e-mails to me, I received dozens of positive comments from lurkers and regulars. One e-mail was very revealing. This person, who asked to remain nameless, called Dave Wood yesterday afternoon and asked him about the scene.
According to the e-mail I got, Dave said that an assistant had started the threads and was posting the vitriolic posts. Dave himself sounded OK, but the impression left was that Dave should have paid much more attention to what was going on. Dave didn't see anything wrong with any of the "Dave Wood" posts until the caller politely pointed out the nature of the messages and their content. Dave had asked for the entire thread to be shut down, but the caller suggested that he e-mail Jill and have the "offensive" posts removed, as well as the "tout" wording in the headers. Dave thought that was a good idea. The caller asked about the "assistant" but didn't get any information, Dave said the assistant was not in the office. Dave was adamant about the stock and said he was surprised that this was the first call he had received. He said he intended to never post on SI again, as it was a little too rough for him.
My read on the above, assuming it is true, is that Dave is a moron for letting the assistant do what he did.
I also got 2 e-mails from the same address, one in which "Dave Wood" said he was in a lot of trouble and could get fired and it was the Chicken's fault, and the other more of the quasi-legal threat crap. So unless Dave is a brilliant criminal, it appears highly likely that Dave did indeed let his assistant do the dirty work. It may be that Dave does not know about the assistant e-mailing me and claiming to be Dave. If that is true, he or she deserves to be fired. I still don't know much about the company or companies that Dave works with/for, but I'll pursue that at a later date.
I also got a friendly post from Jill that confirmed what the nameless caller said in his/her e-mail to me.
Remember that I posted Jill twice the day before the battle, alerting her to the situation. I don't know if Jill or Brad shut down the thread, but in any case it was at the original suggestion of Dave.
Janice, you are a wascally wabbit. Graystone, bluejeans, James, Kevin, TED, eom, Mr.B, marcos, Jim, CatLady, (love that name) rrman, penni, Holly, and all of you that I forgot to mention by name, thanks very much.
All in all, a very interesting 3 days. I know 2 people personally that have lost over a quarter of a million dollars on hyped penny stock deals, and I believe I acted in good faith and in an ethical manner in this "ordeal". Anyone that read all the threads remembers that Dave (or someone claiming to be Dave) picked the fight after I taunted him for some real facts. The ignorance and bad judgment displayed by these people is amazing. Any investor does this kind of due diligence on any stock they take an interest in. Dave clearly hyped the stock, and failed to adequately handle the resultant flak. The real loser is the company he was PRing, if indeed they are on the level, but better them that some investor that can't see a hype or a shill.
There is no "evidence" that I did anything to get kicked off so I've asked Jill to be let back on SI, we will see what happens. Jill has been cordial and professional, and I like her. It appears that I have a knack for this sort of thing, and I'll keep fighting with these shills as long as I have claws. KEEP THE BAWK!!
