I quite agree that Judaism is obviously a religion. But there is a people with distinct physical outwardly visible characteristics which would lend credence to the view that Jews are also a race of people. Race as related to groups of people is defined in my dictionary as "a group of persons, animals or plants connected by common descent or origin."

Although I think that definition is fairly loose and broad, because I don't hear anyone referring to automatic citizens of the USA (people born on US soil, the "common descent or origin") as belonging to the "race" of Americans. There are however some physical characteristics which people born in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark share - predominately blonde and blue eyed, for instance - which gives credence to the idea of a "race" called Scandinavians.

[edit - I'm not sure about the Danes being predominately blonde and blue eyed - maybe Jane could enlighten me there. But Denmark is part of the land area referred to as Scandinavia - but Finland is not.]
