Jrgen / Janko; RE:" Germany "
oh wow - you're taking me seriously.
Well, let me apologize, then.
It's fairly common over here in Europe to make fun of (something) about America or Americans. Sometimes, I shoot a little something back. Invariably, I find that folks over here are quite sensitive about their homelands - even though they might feel free to tease Americans: they don't like it when I tease them back - and I usually end up regretting that I teased them. Like I do right now.
You know from my postings that I am an avid student of European culture, and that this American simply loves having the opportunity to travel to places like Germany and Norway and the UK, to learn about those places and peoples; and to learn something more about my own self by doing so.
I would regret having offended you, a lot. DJ and I are good friends, and we correspond a lot by E*MAIL. Obviously we enjoy teasing one another when we are "on the thread" here.
I was trying to be funny by saying something absurd. It is a peculiar, American form of humour; it is not a "discussion", but a kind of "banter" back-and-forth that we tend to do.
If you would like to discuss American and European cultures, I can do better in a different context (than our little sandbox thread). The question is not, "have you been there?" but rather, "have you lived there?" - for it is as impossible for you to understand the American culture as it is for me to understand the European - without becoming American or becoming European.
Still, I think the lack of tail fins on Benzes and Beemers kinda sums it all up rather nicely, don't you? (^_^)
