Me and my nerd colleagues, we have and use most flavors of SGI boxes up to two figure multihead, We guess that a 4999.00 O2 has comparable performance to the entry level darwin 2999.00 Does Sun have more Apps ported than SGI. I'd guess that a useful darwin may have the same price performance over a useful O2. ramin, I think your analysis is right on. Threats to SGI plan. Some 16 year old nerd out there come up with a graphics card and driver that using the incredible compute power of merced gives graphic performance on NT within 10 to 20% of an SGI box. Netscape, who has money and is really pissed off at the borg and is embracing the shareware world of linux and may adopt linux and integrate it with a suite of productivity tools. The above mentioned card using a linux driver will out perform the the SGI box running NT. What's the performance difference between a Wintel running NT and linux? Oh about 4999 vs 2999. I personally like to round up to 3db. But then again, I are an en-gin-ear. REMEMBER, An intel processor is a terrible thing to waste on borgware.
