I suspect to the mature, it would seem odd that a person would hop on a bus and just go with no plan. But don't the words "youth" and "impetuous" usually go hand in hand?

I guess it was quits city with his girlfriend and Quik was in the mood for a change of scenery. Hey, I was just along for the ride. Life was one day to the next with no long term plan in sight. I was a wanna be hippy with some morals. Somehow the concept never quite took. It took me a few years to figure out that there might be a tomorrow after all.

So anyway, the plan was to go to Utah, but first there were a few minor details to take care of. Quik had exited his apartment with only what could be stuffed into a trunk of a car. (That was also how I lived for quite a few years). For some reason we had to stick around in Grand Junction and then we'd be off. I suspect it was to score this Grand Torino which Quik wanted. I got my first taste of the word "flop house". We spent about a week in this old motel where the rooms were $6 a night. There was one bathroom for the whole floor of rooms at the end of the hall. There was also a bar which connected to the motel, but because I was under age, I couldn't go into it; what a drag. We would while away the nights playing "Risk" (a Parker Brother's game) and of course, smoking. I picked up the panama for $45 and got a nice lid. I distinctly remember that the beds both sagged and were lumpy ta boot.

These memories just never passed away.

Quik had a friend living in Salt Lake City, by the name of Tom. Tom was, for lack of a better word, a slob. After spending about a week in Grand Junction, we headed to SLC. What a beautiful city.

Let the journey continue....
