Just got back from the Toronto conference. Quite a divergence of opinion on the future trend for the resource market and the general market/economy. The one crucial debate was over the deflation vs inflation threat. There certainly was a very strong case made about the former vs the latter but only time will tell.Despite the topic of the resource market, the discussion on these other matters was much more interesting and provocative so far.
Kaiser and Fagan seem to be saying that Ashton and partners will not be ready to roll until and unless the large bulk samples are good and the time frame for the results and analysis may extend into 1999.The conference was small compared to last year where Kaiser (correctly)forcast a total Bre-X scam. He had some 'funny' and ironic comments about his encounters with Walsh and Federoff back in 1993, and, also his forcast that the one stock he would buy last year(in April 1997) if he had to choose only one was CP (Canadian Pacific-Its up 30% or so).
