Orders For Japanese Chip- Making
Equipment Drop 35% In Feb
TOKYO (Nikkei)-Orders for Japanese semiconductor-manufacturing
equipment, including export orders, totaled 67.5 billion yen in February, a
year-on-year decline of 35.1%, according to figures released Wednesday
by the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan.

The figure marks the third month in a row of year-on-year declines.

The domestic market placed 30.25 billion yen worth of orders, including
imports, a drop of 45.4%.

Orders from Japanese and South Korean manufacturers fell, and orders
from U.S. and Taiwanese makers have apparently entered a lull.

Worldwide, sales of Japanese chip-making equipment in February
amounted to 105.26 billion yen, an increase of 42.2%. In the domestic
market, sales, including imports, came to 54.19 billion yen, a year-on-year
gain of 27.1%.
