Humanity is doomed....DOOMED!!!!

William,

I loved your last letter. Particularly the quote by Winston Churchill.

So let me get this straight...you claim that, "the business, public-sector, and high technology, organizations are in a state of denial" about this problem. You also warn us of ominous "social order implications" and "multiple cascading failure scenarios".

William, I agree with you 100% Furthermore, I think that this whole business is really a government cover-up to lull is into a false sense of security. When the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, 1999, and all our computers go beserk, CIA operatives - under orders from the United Nations - will board captured UFOs hidden in secret underground hangars in Nevada and seize control of every major city. With all our computers in a state of meltdown from an inability to calculate a telephone bill, panics and riots will ensue, eventually, we will have no choice but to submit to the New World Order.

Those idiot programmers and captains of industry are obvious dupes, lulled into a false sense of security with the ridiculous notion that fixing existing date calculation problems is no more difficult or expensive than any other maintenance and upgrade task. They are also under the delusion that most modern hardware, applications, operating systems, etc. already handle long date fields correctly.

I know for a fact that when financial institutions try to calculate a thirty year mortgage that begins today and ends in 2026, or a car lease that begins today and ends in 2001, or an annuity, or a life insurance policy, or a depreciation schedule, or a revenue forecast, etc...etc...etc. they are certainly not relying on their computers; instead, they are using a secret army of accountants armed with paper, pencils, and abacuses - probably also funded by the CIA.

It's still not too late. Working together, we can convince the thousands of small and large businesses around the world to hand over billions and billions of lines of code (along with billions and billions of dollars) to the technical wizards at companies like Zitel and Data Dimensions. Only then, will our computers be safe, and we can sleep well at night knowing catastrophe has been averted.

You are a genius and a visionary. Keep up the good work,

Mondoman
