S.W. Alphas have a reputation for being THE "best" chips on
the market, BUT

There's always a but. Only NT will run on Alphas. But that's
only the first but. The big BUT is that most of the
available ordinary apps for Windows will not run on Alphas.
I don't personally have info on what will, but the chances
are excellent that your favorite application will not.

Anybody know about the status of (say) MS Office products,
for instance? I don't know, but the chances are good that
unless the product has a big high-end market it won't
run on an alpha. Sadly.

Now, if you want to run Unix stuff, your chances are much
better.

All of this is second hand from me. Anybody got any better
info?
