Baoho, Point well taken. I'm holding FPAM long-term in my IRA, so I can afford to wait.....I agree with you that part of the short position is hedging. Otherwise ther would be no shares to short! (I call my broker occasionally and ask whether they have shares of FPAM to short. They always say yes.).

Otherwise we might be seeing an AMZN/YHOO short cover rally like over in the Internet stocks which happened earlier this year and helped put Internet stocks on a roll.... (AMZN had a similar 30% of its outstanding shares shorted). On the other hand we could see an APM which had a large short position which nosedived and has since recovered some...........

If there are truly 9,000,000 "real shorts" on FPAM however- then I would call this a neutral to bullish sign.....
