ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 16, 1998--MindSpring Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq: MSPG) today announced it
has purchased the dial-up Internet subscribers of Applied Innovations of Gainesville, Georgia. MindSpring is a national
Internet service provider.

In transitioning to MindSpring's award-winning service, each Applied Innovations subscriber will receive the
MindSpring Starter Kit, which includes MindSpring's user access interface and a complete suite of Internet software
for Windows 95, Windows 3.x, or Macintosh; a comprehensive User's Guide; and access to MindSpring's 24-hour
toll-free technical support service. Transition of the Applied Innovations subscribers should be complete within 30
days.

"MindSpring is glad to welcome Applied Innovation's subscribers to our family," said Cliff Bryant, MindSpring's
director of acquisitions. "It is our goal to make this transition as rewarding an experience as possible for our new
subscribers. This is one of the reasons we have been successful in reaching agreements with companies who choose to
exit the dial-up Internet access business."

Applied Innovations will continue to offer dedicated access, web page design and hosting services for businesses.

"We are pleased to offer our residential dial-up users the high-quality customer service provided by MindSpring," said
Steve McKibbon, president of Applied Innovations.
