Frankel will succeed Dr. James E. Reinmuth, who will continue as the company's chairman of the board. In his role as chief executive officer, Frankel will be responsible for A-Fem's three proprietary women's healthcare technologies which include the inSync(TM) miniform, Rapido-Sense(TM) and the PadKit(TM).
Frankel's career in the diagnostics and medical devices industry spans over 30 years. Most recently he was president and chief executive officer of Quidel Corp. [Nasdaq:QDEL - news] responsible for successfully managing the company's transition from a manufacturer of physician office diagnostic test kits for sale by other companies to a branded sales and marketing organization. His efforts established Quidel as the No. 2 test provider.
Prior to joining Quidel, Frankel spent 13 years with Becton, Dickinson and Company as president of various divisions where he built the domestic and international presence for this multinational diagnostic and medical device manufacturer and successfully introduced diagnostic tests and medical devices to the consumer market.
