How are IBM earnings viewed as a positive for Dell. This was taken from Dow Jones news service regarding IBM's computer sales. I price war benefits nobody except the consumer. IMO

"IBM Chairman and Chief Executive Louis V. Gerstner said that as the company forecast in January, one-time events including acquisition charges and Olympic marketing expenses lowered net income in the latest first quarter.

Currency weakness in Asia also hurt results. At constant currency,
revenues rose 6%, greater than the 2% rise after giving effect to currency translation.

Also, the personal computer business "suffered from a severe price war that was greater than anticipated," Gerstner said, which hurt overall first quarter results. IBM expects PC price pressures to continue.

Hardware sales, which reflect the sales of PCs, were down 8.2% to $7.12 billion in the latest first quarter. "
