While he was showing off Windows 98 in a presentation to the
COMDEX/Spring '98 convention in Chicago, the updated operating system
crashed.

''While we're all very dependent on technology, it doesn't always work,''
Gates joked.

Despite Gates' mishap, Microsoft officials say the new operating system, set
for release June 25th, is more stable and less prone to crash than Windows
95.
