Is GTE for real ---300 CO,s by year end with non-compliant DMT...NOT! Boy, GTE sounds like they are serious...They are,but with non compliant chips not ready, their selection of ORCTF is a short term solution to save face vs. the cable companies...Do you real think they plan to wire 300 CO's with non compliant DMT concentrators and then watch the rest of the industry get compliant chips this summer..I think GTE feels they have a marketing window. WHen the chips that are fully compliant DMT are available from MOT and TI you will witness a whole new round of RFP,s. Westell will be the first company in industry to have fully compliant product.They also will be the first to have a DSLAM that will support DMT or CAP. They busines starts at the CO,s then flows down to the CPe. As confusing as the telco's have been between CAP and DMT, if I was going to wire the CO's I would select a DSLAM that support both technologies and let the customer chose the CPe.A good example is, a customers upgrade selection from 33K to 56K. Well if you customer can select CAP now and have the ability to upgrade to fully compliant DMT later and the CO wiring is the same..That sounds like the ticket. I think Westell will have the product for customers that want FULLY compliant equipment,the competion may be getting the headlines now...BUT it's the $$$$ that matter and no manager will spend big $$$ on non-compliant equipment(especially GTE) and still be employed in 1999.The DSLAM is Veryyyy SoonNNN....Have not been hiding have been OOT.
