are you kidding ? I have been on hold with schwab as long as 8 minutes - most often at least 2-3 minutes, in order to talk to a broker.
of all low cost brokerage houses, the one has least problem either with net or with phone is brown.
you can have an account with morgan stanley dean witter discover (what a long name !) it was lombard before, now it is called discover since they are bought out by MWD. I heard you can even open it w/o balance if you have discover card, not sure. Anyway, the account gives you access to unlimite real time quotes (which is about 1-2 minutes behind the REAL time quotes you get from brown or schwab), but their real time quotes give you more detailed info than either brown or schwab, you also get Thompson report, Zack's, insider activity, major shareholders, etc. which schwab doesn't offer, and brown has zippo research since it is not for investors.
as for trading, discover is ok, faster than schwab, but slower than brown in terms of confirmation, and should never be used as market order in a fast market - you will be taken. |
