Callaway Golf Company Signs Paul Stankowski to Endorsement Contract

PR Newswire - April 17, 1998 15:35

CARLSBAD, Calif., April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Paul Stankowski has joined the
Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) team of staff professionals. Stankowski,
28, is one of the top young players on the PGA Tour. He joined fellow
Callaway Golf staff professionals Paul Azinger, Jim Furyk and Colin
Montgomerie in the field at The Masters Tournament last week.
Stankowski is a two-time winner on the PGA Tour with 13 career top-10
finishes to his credit in four-plus seasons on tour. In 1996, Stankowski was
using a Great Big Bertha(R) Titanium Driver when he won the NIKE Louisiana
Open and the BellSouth Classic, becoming the first player to win events on the
NIKE Tour and PGA Tour in consecutive weeks. He was also playing with a Great
Big Bertha Driver when he won last year's United Airlines Hawaiian Open.
Last week at The Masters, Stankowski carried a Callaway staff bag and used
a Great Big Bertha Driver, S2H2(R) 3-wood and Big Bertha(R) X-12(TM) Irons
while hitting 50 of 56 fairways at Augusta National Golf Club.
"We're very pleased that Paul has decided to join our family at Callaway
Golf," said Donald H. Dye, President and C.E.O. of Callaway Golf Company. "He
is a fine young player with a very bright future. He is enthusiastic about
our golf clubs and he has already performed very well with them."
In 10 events on the PGA Tour this year, Stankowski has earned $167,536 in
official prize money while ranking sixth in greens in regulation and first in
birdies on par-3 holes. Stankowski, who was born in Oxnard, Calif., now
resides in Flower Mound, Texas.
"Callaway Golf has given my game the opportunity to go to the next level,"
Stankowski said. "I'm excited about the way the ball comes off the clubface,
feel and the results I get."
