Fred, I know you are just joking, but I'll answer you in a sem-serious way because I believe I represent Mr. and Mrs. Middle America.

Why a 400 mhz system with 100mhz buss when I could get a sub 1k system?

1. I hate owning old technology. Especially with computers. I seem to always want to do more with my computer and it starts to bog me down. My 150mhz Pentium is just fine for surfing the net, but I prepare and give lots of presentations in Power Point. It takes too long to boot up 40 or 50 slides with graphics and such.

2. My hard drive is full. So I'm left with buying a new one, or cleaning this one and giving it to the kids. I thought 3.1gig would last forever. Nope, not with all the great free programs over the web.
I hate using peripheral stuff. I want it on my hard drive. I want everything there!

3. My video camera works too slow. I'm hoping to get better performance from the 400MHZ.

4. I bought a scanner recently, the kids pictures take to long to boot up.

5. The kids 486 100 is too slow now to run most of the new kids games. They need a new computer, so it seems easier to me to just give them mine. I will still need to update the CDRom from X8 speed on this one though.

6. I want to have a video board where I can easily plug in my camcorder, and transfer images. It seems like a waste to buy the board separately and install it with subpar performance.

7. I want television on my computer. Same reasons as 6.

8. I want DVD. Same reasons as 6.

9. I want voice activation software, same reasons as 6.

10. My profits have been darn good in stocks the last year and I deserve a reward! :-) I simply told the wife I needed a better computer to track our stocks and she quickly nodded yes. <GG>
This may be the most important element! :-)

Michael
