White Shoes,
General Instruments split into three entities and became Next Level, General Semiconductor, and Commscope.
Next Level (new) had some problems and decided to change its name back to General Instruments. It was having a hard time starting up Next Level Communications, so it decided to get NLC (new, new) off its books by making it into a seperate company. ( a very complicated structure).
Anyway, GIC will benefit from success at Next Level but they are not the same company.

Try GI home page for a better history of this confusing structure.

Hope that was helpful
