REAL TICK III is the software program produced by Townsend Analytics. Traders who obtain real time market data from S&P Comstock or PC Quote utilize Real Tick III. It is a highly customizable program that allows a user to do ALOT. Including superb realtime charts. There is a thread on SI devoted to Real Tick III.

Level II quotes are a phenomenon of the NASDAQ. Level Two shows not only the best Bid and Ask and Sizes, but also which Market Makers are buying or selling the stock. It is especially gratifying to hear a downgrade come out by a particular brokerage and then look to see on the Level II screen that it is that same brokerage house that is buying up all the shared of the stock. <gggg> You don't always witness such blatant plays, but it happens and with level II you can see it happening.

Not only do you see the best Bid and Ask but you also see how the rest of the buyers and sellers stack up. Level II is a nice helper for making efficient entries and exits into your trades. The level II effectiveness and "behavior" varies from stock to stock and time to time.

I have been using Level II quotes only since January, so I am still climbing the steep part of the learning curve. But in tandem with some nice charts the Level II is a core part of my trading set up.
