John,

I am well acquainted with the Malaysian ceramics. If you thought they were cheap there you should see the prices here. Amazing. Those pots mostly come from the Ipoh area where my wife grew up and we know a producer there. She told us during our last visit that the export of garden pots began in ernest about 3 years ago and has become a big business. Its interesting. Most of the pots used locally are a simple brown glaze with no adornment. When you go to the garden centers you will see stacks and stacks of these plain pots. They sell for one to two bucks for a large (10" -12" diameter). The "export" pots, those that are adorned with designs and colored glazes, are about twice that price and seldom purchased here by the frugal locals. Amazingly cheap.

Best,
Stitch
