GAMerica Fund Manager Grender Likes Lesser-Known Stocks

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Gordon Grender, portfolio manager of the GAMerica Fund, said he likes obscure stocks that have avoided the attention of most investors.

In an interview on CNBC Tuesday morning, Grender said his fund holds some of the lesser-known retailing, insurance and software companies.

Some of Grender's picks include Best Buy Co. (BBY), Fred's Inc. (FRED), WorldCom Inc. (WCOM), CyberShop International Inc. (CYSP), Intercargo Corp. (ICAR), and N2K Inc. (NTKI).

Gordon said he likes companies that are not lavishly run and have management that owns a lot of the company's shares.

The GAMerica Fund is up 85.07% over the past 12 months and up 24.35% year to date, according to CNBC, which cited data from Lipper Analytical Services Inc. The average market capitalization for the fund's top holdings is about $3.5 billion.
