Linda,

I'm using a Motorola clone right now.

1) Since it uses the Tanzania motherboard, I can't do a cpu upgrade- fine with me- by the time I need more horsepower, I'll buy a whole new box. From Apple. (Planned obsolescence- ok by me. A new g3 is so cheap.)

2) Motorola used a Hitachi cd-rom drive. This is different from Apple's. I can't boot directly from my os8 CD, which can be a bummer when troubleshooting. The os8 CD doesn't support my Hitachi internal drive.

I think this is one of the main problems with the Clones- Apple's reputation is on the line when a cloner picks alternative hardware that won't work with the software. The cloner saves some money, and Apple has to support.
