If this was April 1st I wouldn't believe this one. Even on April 21, it is absurd.
REPORT: WITH HELP OF NASA, HILTON PLANS HOTEL ON MOON!
Working closely with experts at NASA, HILTON INTERNATIONAL is planning to build the first hotel on the moon!
The SUNDAY TIMES of London reported today on project LUNAR HILTON, a huge complex that would have 5,000 rooms, would be powered by two huge solar panels and would even have its own working farm.
"It is a great idea which I am very enthusiastic about and which we are determined to see through... we intend to be the first to build there," Peter George, chairman of HILTON, tells the paper.
Suffering from SPACE 1999 Fever, Peter Inston, the British architect who has developed HILTON's plans, proposes a hotel complex that would rival the size and scope of the MGM GRAND in Las Vegas -- Earth's largest hotel!
According to the TIMES, there would be restaurants, a medical center, a church and even a school, with high-speed lifts to whisk guests between floors. The interior would be pressurized and guests would have the option of using magnetic or weighted shoes to deal with the weaker gravity on the moon. There would also be extensive back-up life-support systems and the hotel would have its own landing pads where shuttles would be able to dock.
Reporter Mark Austin details how HILTON is working closely with experts at NASA on the project and hopes to form a partnership which would be able to shoot guests to the Hotel.
But don't book yet. There are no price or time frames given in the report.
Professor John Peacock of the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh says that HILTON's plans look slightly enthusiastic.
"It cost almost half a trillion dollars to put man on the moon in the 1960s... space travel has not got any safer since then."
