It is quite a lot of work to port an OS to another architecture, and your one flaw is this I think: It would be MSFT doing it primarily, not SUN. But as many people as Bill has workin for him, it would be quite do-able. I will eat my shoe the day McNealy allows this though. :)

I have an idea... IBM's nickname is 'Big-Blue' right? Wonder why we couldn't apply a similar moniker to MSFT:

'Big-Bluescreen'
