Kurlak may be right on that point. Semiconducor companies reliably follow Moores Law. Somehow, the networking folks have lagged behind, even though semiconductors are a significant part of what drives their increased bandwidths. So on a relative basis, we need a lot more network bandwidth relative to microprocessors. Of course, part of the issue is that the big telcos don't want to obsolete "profitable" 30 year old technologies like T1, so bandwidth availability doesn't grow with the underlying technology. I'm beginning to agree with Bob Metcalfe. The telcos are the #1 threat to technological advances in this country and should be de-monopolized, broken up, and opened up to unlimited and (ultimately) unregulated competition. Bandwidth would soar, costs would drop to single-digit percentages of where it is today and we could move forward. mg
