Yes, Harvey is right - BLD turned a net profit of $0.11/share, although obviously not a profit from operations. Still, it shows there is a lot of $$$ coming into Ballard, betting that the technology will pay off.

Revenues from sales of prototypes and development contracts for
1997 reached $24.2 million compared with $25.8 million in 1996.
Net income for the year was $2 million, or $0.11 per share,
compared with a net loss of $6.1 million, or $0.43 per share, in
1996. However, excluding non-operating gains in both periods,
Ballard's net loss for 1997 would have been $25.4 million, or
$1.37 per share, compared with $16 million, or $1.12 per share, in
1996.
