One major difference between SNRS approach to hyperopia and the technique utilizing an excimer laser is that the procedure is non-invasive. The Visx machine would cut into the cornea to correct vision as it does with myopia.

Having undergone the LTK procedure almost 4 years ago up in B.C., I can tell you it is a very minor procedure. Eight very small spots on your cornea are heated for several seconds to a tempeture which will shrink the collegen but not burn it. (If a burn were to occur, a healing response would restore the cornea to it's original shape.) The excimer procedure is major. To begin with they scrape away the corneal epithilium. If you have ever scrached your corneal epithilium, you have major pain...

From the patients perspective, there will be no comparison between the two approaches. No one will want to have it done with an excimer (assuming they demonstrate that it will work in clinical trials).
