I need some advice. I'm new to the thread and to gold in general, but
not a newcomer to SI.

If I wished to convert some equity currently in stocks to gold, what
are some expedient routes? For example, I can not take physical
delivery of my IRA accounts without paying a rather significant
withholding penalty. What is the best way to move part of an IRA's
equity into bullion?

Similarly, if I wished to take delivery of some coins for storage in a
safe-deposit box, what is the least expensive way?

I've done some homework. Brokers will buy and store IRA bullion in
their vaults for you for approximately (round numbers now) $10.6K
per kilogram plus 0.75%/year storage fee. A well-advertised precious
metals firm will deliver 30-each 1-oz. American eagles to your door
for about $9.9K. A local coin dealer will sell me 1-oz gold coins in
lots of 10 for spot plus 6%.

Are there better ways? I'd appreciate any links you can provide. Also
messages are welcome via the SI "Private Message" feature so as
not to clutter the thread (click on my name then, when you're on my
SI profile page, click the upper right message box).

TIA.
