If you understand the way signals are sent over a medium you would love this stock... A high percent of transmission mode for networking equipment is synchronous, or use a clock to decide when to transmit the signal. As networks expand into higher bandwidths the clocks become more important. The clocks or timing mechanisms reduce the chance of the signal collision, making transmission faster and more efficient. The Ethernet, or switch networks are great examples of this, they use time to decide when to send the messages. I can go on and on but the main thing about AMCC is that they provide the clocks for the likes of Cisco, 3com etc. As more and more networks lean toward the SONET (synchronous optical network), more and more timing chips are required. The only way to the gigabit + network is through fiber optics, and every node or connection needs a timing chip.

This is just one of there areas.
Go to there home page, lots of nerd info.
