Somewhere along the line I missed this indicator. Mine would be similar to this although calculated somewhat differently.

I think volume is best used as a confirming indicator. It can help detect when a stock is peaking, bottoming or getting ready to break out. I agree that it is best in the short term. That's why the starting point and scale for OBV and similar indicators is mostly irrelavant. You want to see the trend of the indicator and compare it to the trend of the stock.

BTW, this may be my last round of posts before going west. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to follow up tonight. Hopefully I'll be back on line by the weekend. I know there's a cyber-cafe not too far from me in LV, so if rates aren't too horrendous I may log on from there.
