Actually I think it is just the opposite-right now we are weeding out the weak manufacturers. Gateway will survive for the time being since they are strong in the consumer market which appears to be healthy. Since they are changing their approach towards the corporate/business market I would assume they are not seeing much success there yet.
Obviously since they have not preannounced they will meet or be close to earnings estimates but I am concerned that they will not perform as well as may be expected in this market. However this market seems to care very little about the near term is is focusing more on the 3-5 year horizon.
As for Dell I think it is overvalued. Granted they may be better able to compete in a market where component prices are falling daily but it is just a matter of time before CPQ, IBM, HWP can manufacture like DELL. IMHO jon
