Dear Michael:

An interesting post. This is likely one of those questions that just reveal how little I know, but: does it look as though Intel's Merced chip (due out late 99) will inject new life into UNIX applications? Just wondering, since many UNIX apps of various flavours (e,g.Sun) have been climbing aboard for that architecture--and with this big jump in computing power, it would seem to open up whole new areas of application.

Thanks for any insight you can shed on this.
