The 8000 project started more than 5 year ago by surveying the customers for an idea of an excellent bonder and counter some of their competitor products. After many reschedule due release dates and technical problems,it was pushed out to market. There are still problems as we talk, they are on the assembly line and customer locations. Why did R.V left ? The whole project was a fiasco, should stick with 1488's as customer preference, but Scott will never admit that. On the top tier, their competitors are: SHINKAWA, KAIJO, KME... (Japanse, ESEC (Switzerland),F&K Delvotec (Germany) are doing ok with lower current yen or DM and having new products in store for SEMICON West/98 show coming in July!
