[GST Telecommunications Expands International Frame Relay Network]
VANCOUVER, Wash., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Broadening the reach of its data services capabilities, GST Telecommunications, Inc. (NASDAQ:GSTX) announced plans to interconnect with WorldCom International's frame relay network. The agreement enables GST to offer enhanced international Internet and data services to its customers.
Under the terms of the agreement, the companies will establish network-to-network interconnections in Los Angeles and Honolulu between each of their respective networks. GST will have access to an international frame relay network that reaches over 20 countries. The contract allows GST to market and resell enhanced data networking services to customers beyond its western U.S. footprint. GST customers will benefit from the speed, reliability and reach of an enhanced international frame relay network.
"The ability to tap into this international frame relay network enhances our capability to provide superior, high-speed Internet and data connectivity to international locations," stated Joseph A. Basile Jr., president and chief operating officer for GST. "Given GST's footprint in the western United States, Hawaii and Guam, this agreement provides GST greater international capacity to provide services for its growing Internet and data customer base throughout the Pacific region and beyond."
GST offers services over a state-of-the-art digital fiber optic network. "WorldCom operates as one of the world's largest networks. This agreement is another building block in our strategy of deploying a strong GST data infrastructure for both data transport and integrated access products through our super-regional western footprint," commented Basile. "High-speed international connectivity is increasingly important to our customers as the global marketplace emerges," he concluded.
GST Telecommunications, Inc., headquartered in Vancouver, Wash., currently operates Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) operations on an integrated fiber network throughout the western United States and Hawaii.
