Hi Eric,
You have excellent points. There is nothing to debate. Verity has to come up with some type of Acrobatic Marketing Strategies to DIFFERENTIATE themselves as a market leader againt Oracle and Microsoft. Wall Street (bozoo's) analysts consensus is very low !!!
Verity's products are good...Open platform, easy to use, multi platform, and it does work very well. As a matter of fact I use verity everyday here at Cisco.
In a trully large scale intranet/internet, so far the best solution is verity, however many companies will be settling with microsoft and oracle because it's free and does a fair job.
In terms of seeing standardizing verity with yahoo, lycos... I don't beleive it will happen. Don't forget though that Verity is embeded in netscatpe brouser. So verity is always there with netscape. Oracle could, but not likely support or use verity's engines because as you probably know oracle have embraced netscape that in turn has verity's embeded to it. It would be nice to see some support for verity from oracle in some form.
One of the things that Verity has announced in early 96 is that they are shifting from a nich market to a large scale low end priced products.
Verity is now the number 1 in search engine ( in terms of clients and licenses), but it has to sell more, come out with more products, embed more of their products in other products, behave like a leader, have a better marketing strategy and come out with PROFITS AND PROFITS, we have not seen profits yet. If all this comes true, then the stock can go to 30 or 40 dollars. So far however, verity is showing to wallstreet that it is running out of steam.
