I believe waht prompted all this was the rash of reports of the way asparagus struggles when tossed into the hot water. When it hasn't passed out from getting its blunt ends peeled. So I made the analogy with blue crabs, which I vividly remember doing a quick dance in the steamer before going quiet.
As for crab agriculture, it's been done, but not with edible crabs. More of a pest problem.
