Betty, That may be a valid reason but I know that I wouldn't be willing to suffer estrangement from my parents just because I wanted my peers to think I disagreed with them politically. I didn't have to become an adult to know that my parents, even with their failings, truly loved me. My guess is she had a desire to reconcile with her father before the Alzheimers got too serious because it would have been terrible to live the rest of her life thinking that her father thought she hated him. Only my opinion.
