To Whom:
I have been investing in DRIPs for a few months now. Mr. Carlson's book got me into it and I'm glad it did. My purpose with DRIPs is to build something for the future. I look at least 20 years ahead when I say future. I put something in each one each month and keep a gentle eye on the company. I believe watching the company is part of the joy of investing.
I own Pepsico, Motorola, Regions Financial, AT&T, Viad (used to be Dial), and Proctor and Gamble. I consider them all to be worthwhile companies for this type of investing. I will probably add to the list of companies as I come across companies I like.
Getting attached to a company? Who doesn't? It's like getting attached to your money. I'm attached to mine and, good or bad, it helps attach me to the company in which I hold stock. I see it as good in that I watch the company. I see it as bad because I could hold when I should sell, but I could just as easily do that with a Mutual Fund, which I also own, or a microcap or a dog I'm waiting for the kiss that will somehow turn it into a prince of a stock.
With the coming slide the stock market is going to take I'll continue to cost average on my DRIPs while I stop messing with the market in the other usual forms.
I think DRIPs a wonderful way to be involved in the stock market.

James
