Hi all, been on the road and too busy to play lately, but I wanted to give a little update on the situation in St Pete's and elsewhere. The recent press release about "perfect silicon" is important. This can help them win important business in the 200mm arena and will be a real seller in the 300mm if they can keep the process under their hat. If they can provide a cheaper alternative to epi wafers, it stands to reason that it may help to make up for the slight edge that Wacker has in the 300mm production wafers.

300mm epi is being produced in trial quantities at St Pete's. I get the impression they are close to meeting Intel supplier requirements. I doubt there will be any announcement. Both companies have policies about commenting on customer and vendor issues.

Most of the targeted staff reductions are being accomplished through early retirements and buyouts. Few qualified people will be laid off. They will suffer some loss of productivity. There is a bit of a game of musical chairs going on now with many reassignments in process
at the engineering level. If Intel dumps a big order on them, they could end up with Boeing's problem - how to ramp quickly and keep costs under control while every body is learning their new job!

Don't expect much more than range trading in the 14 to 18 area til summer is over. I'm buying again now - 400 today at $15 - with a 12 month window. I don't think I'll lose any money!
