ECU-what's that? Rubber money. Socialist countries don't have a clue. You can hardly survive with rule by committee like France. We know how much rigor the British can apply to keep their wage demands in line. After all, won't John Major keep them in line? The ECU has no effect on global anything. When the tigers, US, Japan, Taiwan, Russia, Indonesia, Mexico, set a competitive standard the ECU countries will bust out of the ECU simply to survive. They have a regional monopoly on what? Manufacturing. At inflated labor costs. Somehow that doesn't seem very daunting. German M-2 growth doesn't seem very encouraging as far as setting a standard of monetary discipline that would be necessary to keep the ECU from imploding. Well, we do use coupons for grocery shopping, so why can't a basket of promises work. You just have to forget 1,000 years of European history.

The NIKKEI may not take off tomorrow. I can't predict the future. But it is just as likely to tomorrow as June. It will rise when the boys suddenly realize that the dollar can't be supported. If you had read one of my previous posts I stated that the BOJ didn't have to push it over the cliff. I also stated that the private banks would test their mettle. They haven't done that yet. Maybe the private banks can see the strikes everywhere so aren't fighting a losing battle. I can't know what others don't know.
