Peter: Netscapes LDAP is 50 times faster then Novell's NDS

On November 5, 1997, a benchmark study from an independent test lab confirmed that Netscape Directory Server 1.03 handles directory searches more than 48 times as fast as Novell Directory Services. The study also discovered that Novell Directory Services could not handle more than 7 simultaneous clients. Netscape Directory Server handled at least 30 simultaneous clients (the largest number tested in the study); customers have been successful with even more simultaneous clients.

Because Netcape Directory Server is a native implementation LDAP server that does not require a separate gateway, it also has one less possible point of failure than the Novell solution. Customers who deploy Novell Directory Services as an LDAP server must deal with two separate processes, the Novell directory itself and a separate LDAP gateway. This LDAP gateway contributes to Novell Directory Services' poor performance and creates another possible point of failure that administrators must manage.

But that's not really my point.... It will take another post...
