Check out the most recent issue of Audio Magazine. The cover article is a retrospective on DVD one year after its introduction in the U.S. (it is very positive). There is an in-depth review of a Panasonic DVD player with a 96kHz 24 bit audio DAC (they loved the audio and video, list $699), and a short review of a Philips-Magnavox DVD player (they liked it too, saw no artifacts or video problems). No info on the decoders in these consumer players.
