This novel hasn't even been started yet. The idea only came
to me last week. But with plenty of free time, the writing
could go very quickly.

I'm so glad that you are knowledgeable about the economic
situation here! Most people on the Mainland think Hawai'i
is booming, and expensive. But it's been downhill every year
since 1991 for the state as a whole, and Kaua'i had Hurricane
Iniki in September 1992. The Iniki Bus, set up by FEMA back
then for disaster relief, is still running.

Statewide last month the unemployment rate was 5.6%, but
unemployment on Kaua'i was 11.6%.

Luckily, I'm not looking for a job. But the idle time
has caused a fair amount of boredom, and some loneliness.

And, causing more distress, my cat recently developed a
flea infestation. A health problem that is hardly ever
seen in Albuquerque's arid climate, which I had mistakenly
thought could be avoided through the use of a flea collar
purchased in the supermarket.
