AOL will be crushed cleanly, completely and irrevocably if the even attempt to compete on a technological basis with the new web-based technologies for voice, video, electronic commerce, et cetera. They have an excellent chance of being the premier national site, the toll road if you will, for the information superhighway. They must make a clean break from their proprietary roots to acheive this and leverage standard technology to provide unique and premium information services not available elsewhere. The same argument holds for Compuserve to a lesser extent. As for Netcom, please just die.
