Mark: RE: Where the VSGN number accounted for 9M, a 2M increase over last quarter

I missed this. Was this announced in the c. call. I did not think they split out the current q revenue between BORL of old and VSGN (possibly because products are now integrated??? - giving them the benefit of th doubt as I always do)

About the Japan thing it may be a popular excuse but I also think it is a honest one. I have seen way too many firms indicating that Japan went into hibernation in the last half of the first q.

Having said that I think they did a bad job of mismanaging the dissemination of news, a horrendous job of not communicating to everyone that this was going to be a tricky q because of SEA and acquisition related stuff, a not-so-great job of clearly explaining why and when we should expect revenues to start smartly going up and a good job of maintaining profitability (boneheaded one time charges notwithstanding - I can't recall but how does the 19 mil. compare with the estimates they gave earlier. Am I imaging or are they a tad higher now than what they had originally estimated? And that special tax benefit that is yet another extraneous thing isn't it - not related to the VSGN thing at all - which makes the results look even worse??? - just ranting - need to check what was said or better just continue to keep BORL in the l/t freezer and will open at XMas'98 - hopefully Santa will be in a good mood by then.)

Shane.
